Philips Metronomis "Custom Liverpool" LED Lanterns. The Philips Metronomis LED lanterns which light up the area of the Pier Head in front of the "Three graces*" in Liverpool have been customised with a transparent sheet of plastic which bears an image of the famous Liver Bird, a Cormorant which is the symbol of the city. When lit up at night the effect is quite nice! Pictured in the background are two more Liver birds atop of the Royal Liver building. Legend has it that the bird at the front is female and is looking out to sea for the safe return of the seamen while the bird at the back looking into the city is watching over their families. What is more commonly told is that the male bird looking inland is waiting for the pubs to open :) * The Three Graces are the famous trio of listed buildings on the Liverpool waterfront which includes the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard buildings and the Mersey Docks and Harbour company building.

Can you see the Liver bird etch when they are lit, or is it bleached out by the diodes?

Yeah it does stand out quite well from a distance. When you are closer and the angle is steeper it does make it harder to see though.

If you check out the leaflet for this lantern range, they also offer different optics which projects various shapes and patterns onto the ground around the lantern which could look quite cool in pedestrian areas ect.

You don’t realise just how big the Liver building is until you see it first hand!, before all the covid bollox kicked off, I took 3 of our drivers up to a Skoda garage a few 100 meters away from the Liver building, and had to get a look at it while I was there! Wink , it’s the first time I’ve ever seen it in person and not in a picture!
