18w Osram SOX New vs EOL
Top, brand new lamp. Bottom, EOL lamp after 3 years, 9 months and 25 days.
Didn't really need explaining from the state of it lol.

Admittedly the top lamp is the cleanest example I have when I bought 6 off ebay a while ago when they were cheap.
All of the others in the batch have varying states of blackening around the electrodes when they were flash-checked at the factory.

Cause of death was a fractured arc tube.
It's interesting how the cap has been bleached by the sunlight.

That brown staining at bottom is new?

The brown staining on the bottom of the arc tube was there when I last checked it but the brown all around the outer envelope is new.
The big black mark at the top is probably when it leaked and was glowing for ages. The OCV of the ballast I'm using isn't that high and I bet this would have been roasted on ignitor gear!

Yeah! Definitly! Looks like it had just started the first stages blackening on the outer envelope just before EOL, that blackened sock at electrode makes me think it failed normally then the arc tube almost instantly ruptured! This didnt even look any where near EOL in your last update a week or 2 ago! That surprised me... this is about average really for a 18w.

Haha yeah me too! ... yes i opened the bulkhead up and took a couple of pictures of the lamp this morning. Its in a similar condition to what yours was when you last checked it just before it failed
