GE 250w SON-TD
Two NOS GE linear high-pressure sodium lamps.

Designed to replace and be used in the same luminaires (with an external gearbox) as 1000w linear halogen lamps such as Thorn's Haline series of fittings.
The compactness of this lamp means it can be precisely located very near to the focus of compact ellipsoidal reflectors and thus providing very tight optical control compared with normal single-ended lamps.

Lods of these on the 'bay atm for reasonable prices includng Thorn ones. Offers of £10 each are automatically accepted on the Thorn ones too.

Pretty rare in service these

For some odd reason, these are slightly less efficient than their tubular counterparts?

Might have something to do with how the outer jackets on these lamps are filled with a coolant gas instead of being evacuated. IIRC this is to prevent the lamp from overheating.
