Philips 1000w Mercury / Metal Halide Control Gearbox.
I was thinking the other day that I haven't got any real way to run 1000w MBF lamps or MBI lamps designed for mercury gear properly.
I have made do in the past by running a couple of 400w chokes in parallel but that is a pain to set up and is not the best.
I decided that I would buy some proper 1000w MBF gear while I still can because it is only going to get harder and harder to find these days.
eBay turned up nothing and the lighting retailers wanted several hundred pounds for just the choke itself!!!
I happened upon a machinist shop selling the whole thing for only £83! It consists of a Philips BHL 1000 L78 choke, a Philips SI52 parallel ignitor and the required power factor correction capacitors. All contained in a very sturdy and heavy steel Rittal AE1035 IP66 lockable box!
The box itself is like £75 from Farnell so I think I got a bargain!

The gearbox is supplied with a blank gland plate so it is up to the installer to drill hole for cable glands ect but I chose instead to mount some IEC sockets and a toggle switch for ignitor when I want to run metal halide lamps.
The default cover closed position is with the ignitor disabled.

Labels are incomplete as I ran out of tape for my label printer!
