Philips Matchbox Blue
Philips Matchbox electronic high-frequency ballast for 1 x 6 or 8w T5 lamp or 1 x 7w, 9w or 11w PL-S lamps.

Shown with the PCB removed from the case and an insert picture showing the reverse side.

The two TO251 transistors are Fairchild Semiconductor SSU1N50B 1.3a 520v N channel MOSFET's.
The main electrolytic capacitor is a high quality Rubycon 105'c rated 350v 1.8uf unit.

On the reverse side is a bridge rectifier and a load of SMT passives.

The main controller is a SOT16 NXP Semiconductors UBA2013T/N5.
This is a high voltage IC intended to drive and control fluorescent lamps. The
IC can handle both cold and warm ignition of the lamp. It contains a TON-controlled PFC
function, a half bridge controller circuit with level shifter and an internal bootstrap diode to
drive an external half bridge. It also offers a functionality to properly handle
fault conditions such as capacitive mode switching, end-of-lamp-life and over-current.

Not bad ballasts these, but the 2 foot versions seem to under run the lamps somewhat.

They do a multi watt version that's supposed to run a 28W 2D which it does for a short period lol

I didn’t realise you were so in to electronics fsb if you fancy it maybe I could send you some of the annoying China tridonics to cast your eye over to see if you can find failure point?
