With the test completed I got some interesting results, I’ve never tried cycling tests before with this ignitor so I was quite surprised what it could do..
First test using a new 250 watt Osram NAV-E (GB made): Started and ran lamp for an hour, cut powder for 5 seconds, then switched on again, to my astonishment the lamp did an instant re-strike!! Let it run again for 1 minute, switched off again for 5 seconds then back on, the lamp did a second instant re-strike, on the third off/on the lamp only took 3.26 seconds to re-strike.

Second test with a 250watt Philips HPI-T (used), Hungary made: Started and ran lamp for an hour then cut power, waited 5 seconds and powered up, the ignitor fired for 10.43 seconds before cutting out. Ignitor silent for 1 minute 7 seconds, before firing again for 9 seconds then cuts out, (lamp still off). Ignitor makes 3 more attempts to strike lamp all with the exact same timing, (9 seconds of firing, 1 minute and 7 seconds silent. On the fourth attempt, the ignitor strikes for 4 seconds re-lighting the lamp. Total off to re-ignition time of the lamp, 5 minutes and 16 seconds.

Test 3, using EOL 250watt GE LUCALOX elliptical lamp: Lamp started and ran for just 1 minute and 5 seconds before cycling, ignitor fires for 9 seconds then cuts out (lamp unlit). Ignitor makes 2 unsuccessful re-strikes of the lamp, again at 9 seconds fire, 1 minuet 7 seconds silent, (lamp fails to light), On third attempt the lamp re-strikes and runs for 54 seconds before cycling again, the ignitor then makes another 4 attempts to strike the lamp without the lamp lighting, again with the 9 seconds on 1.07 off, without the lamp lighting, at which point the ignitor stops firing altogether until power is turned off and back on, where the whole process starts again. Total test time 15:00 minutes

Thorns super APU ignitor does have some cleaver electronics in them, with consistent timing on each firing cycle.

Interesting! Seems more intelligent than some anti-cycle gear which can shut down from a lamp cooling down from a power interruption .

It’s heart breaking that Thorn have gone from making a superb gear component like this, to just putting their name on bought in Chinese shit! Crying or Very sad

these give much stronger pulse than the early g53282/A impulse ignitors. the first or one of the first was rated for 70-400w and would have great difficulty starting a 70w son plus. they later became g53282/B for 150-400 and there was a 70w son version aswell, which had a much faster pulse.

Gotta be a matter of speed and not of voltage. Present day VS Z70 ignitors (for 70W SON/MBI including SON plus) are 2.3kV, i doubt any of the early ignitors was less than that
