Ok, the joints I re-soldered are circled in red, these are the ones that looked dry, one of the terminal pin joints was dry.

What I've found with them if they are on the blue capacitor sometimes it heats them up and blows them

This has the grey one in, on gear it makes the ballast windings buzz, but no sound comes from the ignitor itself?
Kev   [28 Feb, 2016 at 10:15 PM]
Sounds like it's working then....??? Try a new HPI?
AngryHorse   [28 Feb, 2016 at 11:14 PM]
Could be trying to short the ballast though?, got another superimposed lined up for the next one though!

Philips sox ignitors in the black plastic container suffer with dry joints on the blue capacitor, mainly the 35 watt

Completely repairable! Wonder how many perfectly decent lanterns have been scrapped because of this I know probably millions of HF ballasts have been because of it!

Easier to bit it out for superimposed! Rolling Eyes

Dads pulled a load of these out from Durham library I'm going to get him to bring them home
AngryHorse   [29 Feb, 2016 at 09:25 PM]
These are a bit of an oddball, you wouldn`t expect dry solder joints on something Philips makes?
Danny   [29 Feb, 2016 at 09:38 PM]
Yeah. It's not good I've come across this myself with the ignitors in the mi36 lanterns

It's the fucking lead free solder. It's fucking shit!
Kev   [01 Mar, 2016 at 12:37 AM]
With these you NEED to use the correct lamp. Get your dad to check he's using Philips HPI

I'm not sure what they're using but by the cdmt lamp he bought me home today it's German Osram power balls
