LED chip-on-board strips.
Spotted these on eBay going very cheap and was interested enough to order a few direct from China to have a play with.

The LED's are mounted on an aluminium plate and there are two rows of 44 LED's under the yellow resin.
I've soldered some 0.1 inch headers on one side for testing.

I can say that these are very bright and *easily* out shines an 8w T5 fluorescent lamp, it's hard to look at it directly!
Not sure how long they would last before the diodes start failing though! Probably not very long if not heatsinked correctly as it does get quite hot!

To drive this I'm just using an LM317 in the constant current mode to supply about 800ma.
