FEIT 18w 1200mm LED Retrofit lamp. Was in COSTCO the other day and I noticed they were selling twin packs of these. For only £15 I decided to get a set to play with. Now I know they only claim 1700 lumens which is half of what a 36w fluorescent lamp will output but upon testing them in a twin Tamlite batten with the lamps angled at 135' and 225' (to get even coverage) they were actually brighter than a pair of 40w colour 33 T12 lamps and about the same as 36w T8 840's! Colour rendering was maybe slightly better than the 840 lamp (bit more red) and of course blew the halophosphor 33 lamp out of the water. I was quite surprised about this and I was ready to slag these off to high heaven and then nuke them on an MOT. The "starters" only serve to shunt the live & neutral connections to one end of the lamp and contain a 1 amp fuse. The reverse side of the instruction leaflet directs how to modify the wiring of a HF ballast luminaire.

They must measure LED different to how they measure other lamp types?, unless because their a focused light, their lumens don`t have to be the same to produce the same effect?

Yeah I was thinking something like that. The diffuser is very good too, you can't see any of the LED chips and is lit very uniformly.

Interesting that you lads got feit brands across the pond, very common brand in Ace hardware store here in the states, they also make incandescents.

Only get them, along with a fair bit of other American stuff from Costco.
