Kitchen Spares With the Sylvania T5 under-cabinet link lighting installation over 8 years old now and having lost a couple of 8w lamps in the last year (one a few days ago), and the others looking nice and ripe, I decided to get some spares. I don't actually carry any spares for these, at least not in the right colour anyway so I thought I might as well order some now while I still can. I got a load of Phillips Master TL5 HE 21w & 14w lamps as well as a load of Osram 8w jobbies. These should keep me going for a good while as long as the fittings hold up but I have faith in them. You have 3 different sizes under your units then?, do you use them above the units too?

Yeah originally it just had loads of nasty small T4 things but when I replaced them I chose bigger ones where I could in order to reduce the number of fittings overall. The 21's are the main ones, the 14's are for the end and the 8's are for the corner angled units. I have a junction box at the top so I could put fittings up there if I wanted but there is too much stuff like pots, pans and other cooking paraphernalia up there lol.
The actually made those LS200 fittings in 28 and 35w sizes too!!!

Where did you get the osram 8W/830s? I Wouldnt mind some of them!

Sounds cool, we don’t store stuff on top of ours, but I would feel lost without my unit up lighters Cool I’ve had them for so long now!

Link here They were twice the price of the other bigger lamps lol. I was quite surprised to see they were Italian made Osrams as the invoice I got listed the country of origin as China. They have 4 835 8w's left at £1 each though lol.

As predicted it seems they are getting harder to find now, was looking for some HE 28W recently, but the selection available has reduced from what is was Confused

Amazingly, the lamps that came with the fittings that I installed back in 2013... are still kicking (although I have lost a couple of 8w's)! These are are pretty much on all afternoon and evenings when people are in which is most days.

That's rather good, do your fittings give a pre-heated start? the T5 HE's can last a really long time on HF programmed start! So much so that on a few occasions I have changed the tubes before they EOL as the phosphor has degraded so much they were getting dim and colour shifting but still going!

The 14 and 21's do but the 8's don't.

If the ballasts survive, T5 is bloody reliable for lamp life if using decent lamps

I'd have to agree. As long as the ballasts are decent and don't go pop, you do tend to get a really good lifespan from decent, branded T5 tubes.

I've got an 8w T5 in a picture light with electronic ballast that has been going for 12 years now, it's doing really well.
