Thorn 200w HO SLI/H on 150w SON choke.
Looking at the lamp current and voltage of a Thorn 200w SLI/H lamp being ran on a 150w SON choke.
The actual spec for this lamp is 145v at 1.6 amps.

Channel one (yellow) is the arc voltage and channel 2 ( blue) is the lamp current.

The 150w SON choke is the closest match I could find out of the gear I have available but is slightly overdriving the lamp.

I also tested a 200w halide and a 200w sunbed lamp choke which both looked promising during the run up but after several minutes the voltage dropped and the current peaked at about 2.2 amps.

I might have to see if I can source a 175 halide ballast or a 180w sunbed choke and test that.

Sodium lamps being sodium lamps, my first test of lighting these, (2011), was to put 2 100watt tube chokes together, this resulted in a `wild` glow from both cathodes!!, but 150watt son gear is the best, (and easiest), to get hold of.

160w sunbed ballast underuns the lamp but better than overunning it on a son choke

I tried both a 180w sunbed ballast and a 175w MH ballast and if I remember correctly they both ended up delivering a bit too much current and as a result the arc voltage was lower than it should have been. I didn't use anything as fancy as an oscilloscope mind.

I've always used 150w son choke would rather the correct gear tho! But finding it will be like rocking horse shit

Anybody ever tried two 80w Mercury chokes in parallel?

Would be an interesting test, if I didn`t only have one of them! Confused
