PL-S Adapters: Sylvania vs Smart & Brown.

One "West German" (so pre 1990) Sylvania Lynx-Diamant LXDA 511S/240 vs a UK made S&B DP 188014 adapter for 1 x 5/7/9 or 11w PL-S lamps.

The Sylvania is the clear winner here due to its compact length. Even the lower wattage PL-S lamps are quite long and when fitted to an adapter the lamp tends to protrude from any shade quite a lot, especially the S&B one. An 11w lamp is pictured for scale (The Sylvania comes c/w an 11w).
Its interesting to note how the E27 base on the S&B sticks out so much and instead of the PL-S socket being recessed like on the Sylvania model, the S&B has it sticking out with threads on as if it was to be used with an adapter to fix a shade or some other reflector directly to the adapter.

Both of these are really best used with a 9w or lower lamp because of the excessive length...
