Lashup - Pop pack replaced with LED panel This was in a recent pic that came up on Facebook, taken in what was my secondary school. This building was opened in 1972 (one year before I was born!) and was lit by various types of Thorn lighting, mostly 6ft SRS or 8ft SS single pop packs with prismatic difusers. So here, one of the pop packs appears to have failed, after 47 years I guess there will be cap faliures in the SRS fittings in particular. But why replace it with one of these things? I mean, even if it had to be LED, at they could have atleast used a batten!

I have seen ceilings like this in other buildings of this era. It's a very functional, flat roofed building that was obviously built to a cost.

Coffered ceilings in that style were very popular once upon a time... I have a soft spot for them tbh.

Same thing happened in my college. There were a couple of Thorn PopPack 58w T8 fluorescent battens (which looked identical to this) that were swapped for generic recessed LED panels. You could see scars on the ceilings of where the old fittings used to be. Rolling Eyes
