Last of the decent Pop Packs?

I quite like these despite them being modern(ish). Decent GB made gear with a heat sink plate fitted, the lamp holders seem to work fine and can be adjusted to wide or close spaced, and these were cheap to buy new. Yes the metal is quite thin but it's some kind of higher carbon springy steel which is good enough for the job. Oh and the cover just pulls off, no tools required. Oh and they accept T12 tubes whereas some fittings of this era had started to ditch them *cough* Fitzgerald *cough*

No, last of the decent pop packs were the generation before these with the oval lamoholders and twist lock cover plate. These are ok gear and lampholder wise, but the shitty thin steel lets them down badly. If the ceiling isn't flat, these bend and twist like a bastard and do the screws up just a little too tight and the thing will fall down and smack you in the face. That said, probably one of the better fittings still made, which says a lot really.....

Agreed. These ones with the friction retained cover aren’t my favourite.

Did the early 1990s ones have the pop on plate too

They did, those came in as soon as they stopped making the oval lampholder version.

These were ok though you could install them. They got worse when they went from having the green stuff inside to just white they got thinner

Yes I'm pretty sure the later white internally painted ones are thinner. I've done some very unscientific testing of this before, by grabbing each type at one end and seeing how much they twist comparatively, the later type seemed to twist more
