Seen the odd pictures of these around, but never actually found one in use anywhere. I'd guess they might be popular in things like picture lights where more recently you'd have found a candle lamp. Unless anyone knows differently?

I would say the same, they seem to be between pygmy & candle

The tubular shape seems to lend itself well to applications such as that. Of course, might have been many other uses for these, just not any I've actually seen. Got a big box full of BELL long, frosted tubular lamps at the care home where one of my workshops is, think those were known as 'donkey cocks'. I assume they once had fittings for them, but now in my pile of lamps no longer used there for disposal. I'll probably eBay them or take them to one of the lighting meets to trade.

Sadly I can never make the meets but would be interested in any incandescents for sale or trade that I don’t have

Not able to find your way to Cornwall for a weekend then for one of the meets? It's a good weekend! If you can't, I can always provide you with a list of what I have spare....

Sadly weekends are a no for me especially in summer due to work :-/

The meet usually starts on the Fri.... It;s worth taking holiday and having a weekend off if you can, but ultimately, up to you on that one Smile

It would be fantastic if you could make it one year Keiron, I have so many old incandescents to bring! Sometimes there is a spring or late autumn meet - are there any months that would be easier for you?

I think these single ended tubulars were sometimes used in larger switchboards, picture lights and for some appliances. Decades earlier they were used in wall lights, before the present candle and globe types had been introduced. In Americas they are very popular for sign lighting.

I would love to make one of the meets, sadly I don’t have any weekends free this year, my weekends consist of a Wednesday / Thursday :-/
