When I was a kid we had an old Berry magicoal fire it had the pin (prong) lamp but they were expensive to buy so I converted it to BC. wonder what I did with the old lampholder!

Thankyou Danny, I didn't realise the filament shape until I lit it last night. Simon, I have some of the old pin fireglow lamps, I'm still searching for a lampholder for them, I tested them by using connector blocks n the prongs.

We had a gas fire that had fireglow lamps and the heat from the lamp would power a spinner that gave a flicker effect. We had some cheap fireglow lamps that were obviously standard clear lamps that had been dipped by a 3rd party, and while they gave a pleasing deep red glow, they also produced a strong chemical smell when on, so I scratched the coating off and used them as standard white clear lamps. I have a modern version, Dimplex optiflame which uses a standard white lamp and a motorised reflector to produce the effect.
