Shocked My god, I didn`t think any of these things still existed! Very Happy , ALL of our sign posts were these `box` type ones in my town in the 80s!, until the, now standard, tin plate with a light above it took over.

Still loads in MK and now they are going to be replaced so will try save some, especially for the museum Wink

Glad to hear more were about and not just Milton Keynes or Coventry

All ours were just on a Lucy service fuse, no photo cells!, so the tubes ran 24/7 all year round!, I don`t know if this was just standard practice with Cheshire Highways in the 80s, or all councils did it?, our sign post only got cells fitted when they were changed to the over light versions! Bet it saved on starters though, with only one switch on in the tubes life! Very Happy

Lot of these seem to dayburn especially in these winter months! These all have two part photocells, P9 eye on the opposite side of this column, while if there fitted to Streetlighting columns they switch from the eye on the Lighting columm 🙂 i may try get a cheeky photo of inside the base as i recall its very tight in the base

these are known in the trade as box signs, theres still an handfull about round my way, but generally they are rare nowdays, popular in the 70's and 80's early 90's though i beilive they are still made as there a a few situations where they are prefered to a reflective sight plate with overhead twin 8s on. The real old ones from the 70's like the 30mph/40mph double aspect box signs used to have twin fat 15 watt tubes in them !

I’m not sure of the manufacture of these i know that Signage is it? Still make box signs. Ours in Milton Keynes still are T12 (fat tube) although some have been converted over the years such as this one. I assume these are original from the 80s, not sure if many 70s remain, image so! Still loads here for now
