Indeed. Luckily the switch start ballast & external paintwork is fine. I will simply remove this as I don't need it anyway, clean the worst of the soot off and repaint internally and replace the melted bits of wiring and it'll be good as new!

can any more can be saved? American collector could have enjoyed that fitting if it was not for some Turnips engineering.

If the core can be extracted from the case then it would be at least interesting to see the properties of the core. I dont think it would be easy to open for rewinding but at least the case could be reused to make an original looking ballast for another luminaire
