When this is off, the discharge tube is really well stained, but it runs up well, just flickering a bit when there.

7 years from sox is pretty normal. I did offer rich a couple of 35W SOX think he said no?

Sadly, by the time I joined any lighting site though Kev, my 35/55watt SOX on the house had long gone Confused

The discharge colour looks really neon-red, I am not sure there is so much life left in it any more! Over lifetime the argon content of the gasfilling is gradually lost and the colour after ignition becomes a more intense red.

Yes, that will be about right Very Happy , as this is a proper intense red whist running up!
