Slimline Resistive Ballasted T12 Fitting

Not seen this one before. This is a good deal less cheap and nasty looking than the Light Ideas fittings...nor does it have the odd and annoyingly hard to find starter/ballast lamps the Atlas Kitchen Light uses. No makers marks I've found anywhere so far. Anybody recognise it?

Quite a nice minimalist looking fitting though, reckon I can probably find an actual home for this one...

Tube fitted is a well worn Philips, which I'd say is 70s based on the etch...date code is 8A.

I vaguely remember someone on ATL posting on the forum section that sadly no longer exists, about one of these being GEC's competitor to the mazda netaline/Atlas homelite, so I do wonder if this is that? I cant say I have ever come across one before otherwise! so whatever it is its very rare, and a very cool find Smile

Aye, definitely a worthy save I think. for all it's very simple I reckon it should be a really nice looking fitting. The fit and finish is far better than most "basic" fittings I've come across. I'll have a closer look tomorrow (be later in the day as there's a car show I'll be exhibiting at during the day), see if I can track down anything with any form of maker's mark on...

Just be aware, some of those resistor wire ballasted fittings contain asbestos.

Now that has answered a question about a light fitting that was behind a curtain pelmet of a bay window in a house that is in the next road from me. It was a fitting just like that. Long removed many years ago. Curtain pelmets have been out of fasion since the 1980s, I remember us removing ours, though they didn't have any lighting.

I strongly suspect the resistor wire is asbestos sheathed, though it appears to be in perfect condition, not fraying or showing any visible damage anywhere so will be left alone. Having checked the fitting over I suspect it's not done a huge amount of hours, it was dead when I got it due to a dead starter...have to wonder if that's why it was replaced given the starter was hidden away behind a screwed shut compartment...did the owner even know it had one?
