Hotel Lighting - 1980s style
A couple of snaps from my annual trip up to the Mercure hotel in Livingston for a convention. It's quite an unusual place in that it seems to have avoided much in the way of refurbs so far - and while slightly threadbare in a few areas is generally in good order - very few lights out in the place anyway. Think the only LEDs I've seen in the place are a couple of MR16 downlighters and a couple of replacement emergency fixtures.

It's a nice place to stay - and the staff get a definite mention for coping with the number of folks we had there - we'd filled the entire hotel and then had overflow at a nearby Travelodge, yet they still managed to keep up and keep a smile on their faces.

Always worry that next year I'll find the place renovated and full of LED trash though!

Fittings are by and large Thorn made.

I like that type of lighting. Some travelodges still have the older arrowslims with the black lampholders over the bathroom mirror.

Light over the mirror in the bedrooms here is a 3' black ended Arrowslim I believe. Forgot to snap that this time, but think I may have one from a previous trip...will have a rummage for it later.

This is following refurbs in recent years. They're perfect for the job, nice to see them not being replaced just because they aren't considered cutting edge technology.

This place I reckon is likely to see a major overhaul relatively soon. The rooms are quite threadbare in a few places. They generally do most of their business with corporate in-and-out meeting type jobs, think we're the exception to the rule when we book the whole place out. Reckon this is why it's "survived" so long, if it was a tourist hotspot rather than buried in an industrial estate it would probably have been 6500K LEDs everywhere long since...

Whats in room 237? Rolling Eyes

Well 227 I seem to recall hosting a fairly major party while we were there...or I'm missing some cultural reference because I'm stupid...

The corridor reminded me of The Shining!, and 237 with the old woman in the bath! Very Happy

That would be why I was clueless then. Never seen more than a few snippets of it!

Shocked Shocked You have never seen Stanley Kubricks masterpiece???, its my all time favourite film!, I guess horror is not your film genres then?, the bath scene in room 237 is proper creepy Cool

Horror isn't really my thing to be honest, though I can still appreciate a film for its production values. These days I tend to struggle to sit through a movie though, always get distracted after half an hour and wander off to do something else.
