GE 1kw CID PAR64 discharge 1
Decided to fire up the GE CID PAR64 lamp that I got a while ago.

Great glowing balls of fire!
The plasma discharge fills the whole of the arc tube!
It's amazing that it can survive such conditions tbh!

I used a Philips 1000w SON ballast together with a 400w Parmar SON ballast in parallel. Ignitor was the high voltage pulse transformer located inside the Thorn OQ1000 fitting that I used with a simple push-to-make switch wired in to trigger it.

Apologies for the soft image as I was using 3 stacked ND8 filters and also shooting at an angle through the very thick outer envelope doesn't help either.

I'm amazed that such a tiny little lamp can handle such power. The pressure inside that little envelope must be immense. Incredible! Cool

nice lamp, i came across one of these in the recycling box a while back but it was damaged unfortunately. btw the correct ballasts are 3x 400w son you maybe overunning a bit on the 1000/400 combo

Yeah, I have to use what I got but it measures in-spec though.
