GE 1kw CID PAR64 discharge afterglow.
After extinguishing the lamp, I was surprised by the fact that the gas in the arc tube continued to glow bright brown-orange for several minutes after the lamp was turned off before returning to it’s clear state. Not seen this before in a halide lamp!

Note the red hot metal bits... must get a bit warm during use :)

Apologies for the soft image as I was using 3 stacked ND8 filters and also shooting at an angle through the very thick outer envelope doesn't help either.

Yeah the smaller Osram, HQI at 150 watts glows in the same way when turned off due to the intense arc space and heat it must create Cool

IIRC the orange gas afterglow is from the tin component in the halide mixture in these daylight lamps, iv never seen the molybdenum foil seals glow like that before tho thats impressive! Cool I regret not Jumping on one of these when they showed up for cheap on ebay

There is a warning on the instruction card that comes with the lamp warning of temperatures of up to 1000’c!
Oh yes, I’ve just remembered those Osram and Thorn lamps... might have to take a closer look next tine I play with them.

Pink and magenta MH lamps tends to have this afterglow as well, and I don't know why?
