Lol, dor123 bless him, dived straight in with the old “these are for mercy gear only” argument on LG!, we’ve had that conversation before! Laughing

Will that ignitor work with that ballast?
AngryHorse   [21 Sep, 2019 at 10:24 PM]
That’s a good point, I presumed it was superimposed??

Ah no looks like it might be the wrong ignitor! Still cheap though as those lamps are normally £80 alone!

Yeah, well spotted Adam Very Happy I’ve picked the wrong ignitor up, will swap Monday Embarrassed

The ballast is dual rated for both mercury and SON currents, so it must surely have sufficiently good insulation to withstand a 5kV ignitor. And for the lamp there is no problem, it could be struck with a soft ignitor but will not be damaged with more power. So I would keep this setup, then you have the flexibility to use same components for other lamps which do need more energy to strike.

Yeah I was thinking that this morning James, most impulse ignitors just fire on their neighbouring windings on a multi-tap ballast, the wiring just needs configuring slightly different Cool
The only thing is, is what tap to put the ignition wire to?, with Thorn gear it’s always put to the 220 tap, but this is a multi tap ballast, is their a difference with how far the ignition voltage has to goes through the windings?
