I remember ALL lamps in the shops being in simple sleeves like this, with a small card insert that the lamp cap rested in to stop the lamp falling out the packet.

I find that these corrugated carboard sleeve packaging hold the bulb very firmly but at the same time very loose depending on the integrity of the cardboard itself. Was it the mid 80s when closed carboard packaging became the norm with incandescent bulbs stocked in the shops?
