I seem to recall that these really used to munch through tubes - main reason in the end I ditched the ones I had

Oh yes due to the cold cathode style startup that sputters the electrodes big time hence I see the lovely purple glow on the ends of the tubes for a good 2 seconds. Since I am fond of using it, I will be using the modern made 18W tubes that are Chinese made and the Philips Polish made ones (the left tube is one) this is not to be used with precious vintage halophosphor tubes . I plan to get more
