Good example, doesn’t look many hours on this one Cool

Oh definitely considering it was from the box of lamps and it didn't have its own packaging Cool

Nice old Lucaalox too with the thermal cut out Unlike the modern ones that dont have thermal cut outs and the glow starter triggers whilst the lamps in use due to the heat... Looking how clear the glow bottle is id say this is NOS.

@Liam: Oh yeah is that why the modern ones especially the Crompton ones don't last very well due to this continuation of the glowbottle striking whilst the lamp is under normal use - now it makes sense, defo would choose these proper Lucaloxes over any Chinese made ones

So the lamp is just cycling on its own from new bc the starter is shorting it when it heats up ?
Flurofan96   [27 Aug, 2026 at 06:59 PM]
@Ash: I don't have the fixture nor the gear to run this lamp, so I have no idea

You could probably get away with sticking it on 70W gear just for a quick test to make sure it lights.

I'm in the process of sorting out my shed and if I do get a spare wire and plug I shall wire up my 70W SON floodlight that requires SON-I lamps - I shall run it up for a short while

That is not representative of what the lamp would do. I think a fairly close match would be with 4x 13W PL chokes in parallel
