I remember I had an Osram Dulux EL Longlife 15W/840, which was the first CFL that I've seen from closeup.

@dor123: Now this CFL in 840 colour would be my preference, such a pity I can only get them in 827

Beta 5: Exactly and the larger housing means that heat can be managed a lot more effectively, hence no overheating the ballast

Indeed, and the pre heated start when cold helps the tube life too
|
|

Hence why the blackening will not be that pronounced like the Philips Genies because thanks to the preheating stage of the pre programmed start in the OSRAM
|
