On Borrowed Time? One of the best maintained installations of any type I've seen, in our local Costco. It's very rare to see even a single lamp out, and the fittings always appear to be spotlessly clean. I've no idea of the wattage or lamp maker, but they're all halide fittings running clear lamps. Colour temperature is around 5000K I think. I do worry that given the march of LED quickly eating away at the HID market that these halide fixtures are on borrowed time. It's just really nice these days to see an installation which is clearly properly looked after. The same goes for pretty much anything in there to be honest, they obviously take quite a lot of pride in keeping the whole place spotless and in good order. Next time you're in there, look closely at the lamp. You'll probably find its a retro-fit LED module. Costco did all their stores over a year ago and whatever it is they've used, I didn't notice until I read about it somewhere and made a point of looking the next time I was in there. I've yet to see a single failure in either of the 2 stores I regularly visit.

Rows of single T5 battens are the emergency lighting! Standard format for every store.

If they are LED they're bloody convincing halide replacements...I was peering up at them today and certainly thought they still looked like halides...will need to look more carefully next time I'm there now. Always enjoy how well kept stuff in there seems to be. Might only be skin deep for all I know, but it makes a nice change!

Yes, I have no idea when they did either of the stores I use as I didn't notice a difference in light level or colour. It was only when I read something about all their stores having been done that I looked and realised they were indeed LED! Sadly, this is the exception rather than the rule when it comes to LED conversions.

It's some retro-fit module that just screws into the E40 lampholders in the existing fittings....

Corn cob LED's get the worst from people but they are the least of a bad lot I think. The ones in charing cross are fairly bright abiet at a horrible colour temp.

Yeah they were all done a while ago. I only noticed as the CRI seemed better than normal. Why can’t all LED be as good as the ones they are using? I wish my work had used these retrofits instead of those horrible LED high-bays that I’ve posted about in the forum...

Ah, yes, those are the ones! So far, my local store has had them about 18 months, with zero failures that I've ever seen. I look every time I go in there too!

There are still a few stores in Reading that still has their MH highbay lighting. I know couple of them that had the MH lighting replaced for T5 highbay lighting

Built in fan= failure from the start! These are designed to fail sooner or later

These are definitely still halide. Was back in there today and made a point of carefully checking. They're large clear lamps with an easily visible integral blast shield. Snapped a photo while I was there which I'll get uploaded in a sec.

These are now gone as of 5th July 2019. All replaced with LED units. Shame to see, but felt somewhat inevitable really.

Ones in my local Costco have done over 2 years now and in that time I've only noticed one failure. Given the hundreds in use in there, that's not bad as I'd have expected even the best discharge lamps to have had a few failures in that time too. I know they purchased something fairly decent, the price of these LED modules however reflects this.
