That’s really stunning John, even with mint condition packaging. Seeing such a perfect example makes me feel like collecting ballasts as well as just the lamps.

thanks James, ebay has been good to me lately, or maybe just luck. this and nos 45w gec soi, 2x10w sox lamps and others

i am sure an example like this would do many hours - much more than most led counterparts. leds can be ok, but its just the way the market has been flooded with no other real alternatives, very little hid or anything else. ceramic mh is good and still available

Nice to see such fine example tucked away in time.

Wonderful to see this in pristine condition.

Can't be many of these left boxed.....
thats great to see, never seen the box for one of these, got quiet a few of this leak tranny used, they were in the small diamond patterned ended bowl lanterns for 35w sox from the 1960's. ive got the 90w sox version and 135 sox version of this same shape transformer too all used

does anyyone know if GEC themselves made this style of gear? the green leak transformers i mean? GEC went over to parry (parmar) gear about 1980 onwards, but dont know if parrys made these older ones or not really
that is a very good question? i do not know the answer to that, but it is correct parmar made the later ones. i have a good spare one like this but for 140w so/soi
is that 140 so leak transformer a new boxed one too?
no its a good used one from early 70s salvaged in the last 10 years (from z9464)
i allways thought GEC made this gear themselves and the older pre green range which was open coil twin bobbin wound black transformers with the aluminium plaque on them

I worked with a guy who used to work for G.E.C and he made steam turbines the size of small buildings for power stations!
