Osram-GEC 1000w projector lamp

I found this beast of a lamp on Ebay recently, to say it doesn't put out much light would be the understatement of the century! What kinds of projectors required lamps this big? Movie theatre projectors before more specialised lamps for them were developed?

Your Lamp is the classic A1/57 Projector Lamp, they are commonly used in 16mm & 35mm Cine Projectors, also used for Stage Lighting and Ship's Searchlights, Don't think they were used in Cinema/Movie Projectors as before the use of Xenon Arc Lamps, the old fashion Carbon Arc were used. surprisingly you can still buy these Lamps,
