Interesting damage, can’t have been a car?, so I would guess tree falling on it, but if that’s the case, how did the lantern get away undamaged?

Could have been a tree which has been cleared already. Might have hit the column and not the lantern.
If it was vandalism, I'd expect the lantern to be smash to buggery.
