I think you could actually get a glass for these - note the screw thread on the plastic...

Yeah it does look like there should be some attachment, would be interesting to see what one looked like.

I've never seen one of these with glass, but given the presence of the screw thread I would assume they came with some kind of optional globe-shaped cover.

I wonder if it could've had an option for a reflector like those Osram EL CFLs.
