Is that the one that WAS a red burner
eclipsislamps   [08 Oct, 2015 at 08:21 PM]
Yes, it won't strike on either sox gear or halide gear, just shimmers red. The sodium was trapped under slag. Of course tapping it freed the sodium. It just seems strange it won't strike easily now

How off that's what one of my gecs is like. Hey Andy should give yours a go on this.

anyone remember what happened when I mentioned MOTs on ATL? MOTs have a high voltage at a high current so while being very deadly they are very good at getting lamps going (a MOT is 2000V at about 1A a typical sox Leak ballast is 0.6A-0.9A 600V) and while an ignitor might be able to push 5Kv they have no current behind them to get the electrodes warm on warn/stale lamps

probably best to leave all that shit in the past Dez eh lol was nice when All that was over wasn't it.

I may regret this but I'm going for it anyway. What happened on atl?

I think you will have to treat that Super Sox of mine to this tranny!
eclipsislamps   [08 Oct, 2015 at 11:31 PM]
Well let me know when you are next up north and Ill see what I can do
Andy   [08 Oct, 2015 at 11:41 PM]
Yes I'll bring it with me next time I'm up your way and if this doesn't work then Danny can try his gear on it but I have a feeling it is knackered.

I did this with a standard 40w fluorescent ... it didn't even seem much different than normal brightness.
LightBulbFun   [09 Oct, 2015 at 10:41 AM]
it all depends how you ballast the MOT (unballasted they can pump out some amps but they go FWOOSH BANG in about 5 minutes) so most people ballast them limiting the current (I found a 600W SON choke worked quite well...)
eclipsislamps   [09 Oct, 2015 at 10:43 AM]
I have this one on a 250w ballast but even with that the transformer gets pretty hot. Can't imagine it surviving 600w

mine was from a quite old 800W panasonic microwave when the magnetron packed up. I never left the MOT on for long periodes of time at any time (things are fucking deadly) but i dont remember it getting overly warm on a 600w choke for the time i used it...

You were lucky to get 2KV through a household BC pendant fitting! Cool
