Converted Thorn Guard light
Originally a non maintained 4w affair, the batteries leaked & the circuit was doa, so junked it all & converted to SS using a Tridonic 4/6/8w Ballast & a potted pulsestarter. Probably runs the tubes harder than a dedicated 4w ballast would.

Interesting starter!

Well constructed, you could mod these for quite a lot of things, I have one of these with a HQI-TD in! Very Happy

Does the starter manage to pre-heat the cathodes correctly or does it just self start?
Arrowslim   [19 Oct, 2026 at 09:27 PM]
9 times out of 10, yes, it does pre heat. Occasionally though it does strike before the starter gas a chance to do its thing.
