A|S Norlett Ambassador
Whilst the majority of my towns lighting is the usual boring stuff (which is now interesting because of LED) the town centre certainly had some interesting and unique lighting. There was 7 of these massive wall lanterns, and 3 post top versions. I had my first close encounter with one in 2014, but at the time, left it alone.

Fast forward to 2019, there was only 3 wall lanterns and one post top lantern left of this installation. As a child, and even more recently, I had always wondered what these lanterns were, hence I sought to have one for the collection.

Speaking to the right people wound me up with one of the final wall lanterns from the town, as of now there is none left at all. Its absolutely huge, towering above my other post tops, standing 4 feet tall and projects about 3 feet. Its also remarkably original, looking to have its original cell and its relay, and even its cutout too. I was also finally able to identify the lantern as being made by A|S Norlett, based in Norway. It is unfortunately missing a component, so I will be looking to have a new part recast. Restoration will involve a complete overhaul of the lantern, a change of lamp to SON-E. and I'd like to source a refractor ring too to go around the rather bare lamp.

I'd not appreciated just how big that was til I saw the pic on Facebook, showing a cut-out in the base with acres of space around it!
