Phosco P140A, internals
|
Acquired 26/06/2020, this fantastic Phosco P140A, many thanks go to Slyspark for this. Originally for two tubes, at some point in the past it had been converted to switch start. I decided to make the lantern a little more awesome, so I sourced original spec lamp holders and terry clips, and converted it to quad tube. Originally connection to the gear trays from the main terminal block was achieved by two more terminal blocks at the top of each tray. I decided to fit two push clip terminal blocks instead, which will help in servicing the lantern should any components on the trays fail again.
Firing up for the first time assured completion of the electrical overhaul. Watching the 4 tubes blink into life never gets old for me. What makes seeing it on the test column a little more amusing for me is that the lantern is the same length as the column from the bottle neck upwards.
Restoration of the whole lantern will commence as soon as the backlog of what needs restoring first is cleared. This will involve replicating the original Hammered Metallic Beige Phosco seemed to love painting their lanterns with. Internally and the underside of the canopy will see a freshen up with gloss white.

I have played a while ago with the design of a new similar luminaire, though my design was around PL-L's and modern (VS style) ballasts. One thing i wanted to estimate is, how far the tubes must be from the diffuser so the light will appear uniform
