Simplex Solumbra gear in head
Originally designed and offered by Revo, this version was the first iteration of a geared Solumbra. Rather then redesigning the base to accommodate the then massive ballasts, they redesigned the canopy instead to have a raised section in the middle, with any gear mounted above the lamp, making it a rather top heavy design. They found huge popularity, mainly around costal areas, and to this day examples can still be found dotted about here and there.

The example featured here is made by Simplex, and is immaculate through and through, the canopy still features remnants of its original beige paint, the underside is still immaculate with next to no corrosion, and the grub screws in the base still turn freely, owing to putty having been pushed over them when it was first installed to ward off the water, a brilliant move. Internally, its clean, however its original Simplex ballast had long since vanished, as a date written on the GEC ballast confirms as being replaced 12/02/1990. It was simply cable tied in place, but noticing the bridge for the canopy thread was too low, I raised it up, which then allowed me to stand the ballast up and secure it down, one quick alteration to the wiring to disconnect the minicell, the internals are now tidied. To me personally, this is one of the best looking geared post tops one can get, its simple, and despite that raised section, doesn't detract from its sleek appearance in the slightest.

My intentions are to find the original Simplex ballast, so if anyone might have one spare, please let me know. I also plan to wet dry sand the cone to remove the yellowing that has begun to set in.
