Eleco HW922

My first memories of Eleco HW922's takes me right back to 2007 or thereabouts, when I would be invited to stay with a friend at their caravan in Borth. The main road was lit with Z9454's, whilst side roads had a mixture of SON and SOX, most prominently two or three wall mounted Phosco P178's running SOX. Somehow two of these matching HW922's survived as what I can only assume was the remnants of what once reigned supreme in the area. One was installed above a caravan on the holiday park of all places, and the second was installed 2 or 3 miles down the road in a place called Ynyslas. Both worked well, and both had bright mercury lamps from memory. Then one year both disappeared for Sapphires.

I first realised what they were from Mike Barfords site, and thus it became paramount I obtain one of these lanterns. Over the years I managed to acquire every single plastic bowl variant, and then later the chevron style glass bowl type, but the symmetrical glass bowl always seemed to evade me till my most recent meet. Its with huge thanks to Simon for accepting the offer I made that I am now able to add yet another childhood lantern to the collection, and rather unintentionally completing the range of bowls Eleco offered with these lanterns.

Upon closer inspection, its clear to see that the lantern had instead been installed as a bulkhead rather than a lantern. This had allowed water in which eventually seized every screw solid. I took some time to free up these screws, which allowed me to then clean the bowl. The lamp holder was originally ES, but seeing as all my others are 3BC, decided to revert to that for consistency. As I rebuilt the lantern, I replaced every screw with matching 2BA screws, and once restoration has been completed, will be a very representable example once more.
As usual, the exterior will be painted hammered silver, and the interior gloss white. The holes will be filled in with matching cast aluminium, which should go a long way in bringing the lantern back to a more original state.
