Brand new Urbis ALtra, profile
Found IN THE SKIP, and subsequently saved, this Urbis Altra actually now gets a chance at life. Originally taking 24w PL-L, it was converted to 36w PL-L because the lamp compartment looked rather wasted, as well as the fact the HF driver was actually broken, falling apart on me as soon as I hinged the gear tray. Its now a switch start lantern, and works very effectively. The optics easily increase the light output, spreading it evenly around the area.

Its a very clean modern looking lantern, as is typical of most PL-L lanterns of the time. The reflectors protrude into the bowl, creating an almost cutoff light distribution. Overall its very well designed, its just a shame LED killed PL-L off before its time, as a few years longer really would've brought the best out of the lamps.

They were brilliant lanterns it seems, certainly the ones I see in service haven't fell apart or had water ingress so a well built lantern.

The contractors went through a phase of using the 55w version of these on new build housing estates but once dcc adopted them they were all changed for 1 module Axias! I have 2 of these in my collection, one shallow bowled and one deep bowled like this ohe
