Considering the LPS lamp is supposed to self absorb when running, these seem to do quite well

Yes, this lamp design is very unusual. Unfortunately there is no any info about these lamps. Probably they were made for the only one experiment in 1938 when Moscow was lit by LPS lamps... All known lamps of this series were made in 1938.
