Holophane P.2513/2 wellglass
Another day, another restoration completed. I bought this Holophane wellglass light off a fellow collector, having always liked this design. It consisted of a range of similar fittings, differing in size and mounting positions, I believe this one being the smallest in the range. This example originated from the National Coal Board in Yorkshire.

I always thought the black paint really didn't suit it, so it was duly stripped off. As I was stripping it off, I found hints of a bright yellow paint beneath, I can't even imagine how that would have looked. Once sanded smooth, I gave it a new coat of hammered silver on the exterior, with a gloss white interior. The rusted bolts were also replaced with flat head screws of the same whitworth thread, meaning access to the innards should now be a whole lot easier. Finally I sealed the glass into the ring with a exterior sealant, hopefully meaning no more unwelcome guests will get inside. Overall it now looks very fresh. I now plan to find a suitable swan neck, and hopefully install it on one of my sheds.
