Thorn Precinct
More of a multi purpose lantern, but in this case a bulkhead due to the lack of a post top adapter, the Thorn Precinct was a design launched in 1973, which is still clearly evident in the general appearance. They were never actually sealed, so therefore became quite dirty quite quickly.
This example was given to me by Danny, and runs a nice 80w MBF lamp. I specifically specified Mercury since I had never actually seen one in use, but thought it added more to the looks of the fitting, on and off. The bowl is made of a type PVC, which whilst preventing yellowing, it is extremely susceptible to burning and disintegrating under the heat of a MBF lamp.

Again, Thorn should have made a glass bowl version of this?
Dave   [25 Nov, 2015 at 12:32 PM]
i do think a glass version would've been better. At a later date Thorn made the bowls out of acrylic, but the mercury lamps burned it slightly. I'm actually in two minds whether or not to convert this to 50w mercury.
