Converted Thorn escort bulkhead.
I was given this Thorn EFG3 bulkhead by a fellow collector a year or two ago as a single tube non maintained 4w emergency fitting, with no electrics of any sort. The batteries had leaked all over the emergency gear and corroded all the tracks off, even corroding the metal rim of the base casting. I thought at the time it'll never ever be original again whatever I do to it, and seeing some potential, decided to make it a triple tube 4w bulkhead with some parts I had lying around.

The lamp holders are all genuine Thorn, at least giving an impression that this was an original setup from factory, and the two EC8 ballasts and three starter sockets came from some scrap sign lights. Overall its a very tight fit, but the layout still looks factory original.
I completed restoration in less than a day, stripping both reflector and base back to bare metal, filling in the corroded away areas on the base and also some now disused holes on the reflector, before being primed and painted. The base would originally have been a grey similar to Coughtries grey, however since the bulkheads now so far from originality, I decided to paint it hammered silver instead, a choice I'm very pleased with.

4w tubes on their own are fairly dim as we all know, however 3 in the same fitting are surprisingly bright. The glass does very well to diffuse the light, even making it look as though its only one lamp rather than 3. A conversion I'm very pleased with, and pretty soon after it all dried fully, it joined all the other multi tube bulkheads in the collection shed.
