My Hyundai Baguette 102 21W T5 batten, still working after 15 years without problems despite having a CFL like ballast, and suffered from a brownout.
However, its left lampholder is coming out from its place when replacing lamps.

Do you operate this with the cover always removed?

Yes, since the cover is white and not transparent, so it hides the lamp from view.

It's always nice to be able to see how a lamp is aging! Also keeping the cover off should reduce the trapped heat and extend the life of the ballast.
