mid 2000's Paulmann MR16 halogen lamps with decorative cylinders

In the 1990s and 2000s MR16 grew an increasing popularity from display lamps to general lighting applications in domestic settings. Dichroic reflectors allowed cool beams while the lamps could be used open and the light escaping by the back used for decorative application. Dichroic coatings also allowed to design lamps with desired colour temperatures like Osram's decostar cool blue or lamps sold under the Solux brand in specific light colours like 4100K or 3500K.

Major manufacturers only had a limited portfolio of these lamps with even coloured lamps being rare. Reason being high costs for these lamps.

Paulmann of germany was a company who arguably had in the 2000´s the biggest portfolio of 12V reflector halogen lamps, even thu these lamps hade problems. For example lamps with coloured bodies, however an organic lacker was used that degraded. Rectangular and hexagonal lamps. And also the examples shown here.
They are intended to pimp your ceilings spots with decorative glass cylinders. They consist of standard MR16 halogen lamp without dichroic reflector in order to prevent excessive heating of the ceiling, were instead of the front lense a decorative cylinder is glued. As capsule an UV stopping quartz capsule is used. It is believed that the capsule also have a low pressure filling in order to lower the risk of shatter of the capsule in an open lamp.

This concept however was not new. The first lamps with decorative cylinders and textured lenses were first introduce by GE-Thorn in 1990-1991.

Who manufactured these lamps is not known. To my understanding Paulmann was and for the fact still is a reseller in the lighting industry that specialises in decorative lighting. I am certain that these lamps were not made by paulmann themselves. I however also doubt that these lamps come from china. It may be that these lamps were made by bLV but that is nothing more but a guess.
