Does anyone know if 18W SOX is still made ? They seem to go for silly money on Ebay.
Danny   [01 Oct, 2015 at 09:00 PM]
Yeah I think Philips Hamilton still make them in SOX E 18

brilliant find, what a waste someone throwing them out. 18w sox is still made by philips in sox-e and osram 18w sox also philips. are they all osram and one philips?
benlucysam   [01 Oct, 2015 at 09:08 PM]
Yep 7 Osrams and one Philips, what is the differance between 18W SOX and 18W SOX E ? normally SOX E is a lower wattage

I'm not sure I think they've made it some sort of energy saving sox? Whilst keeping it as 18w

benlucysam   [01 Oct, 2015 at 11:36 PM]
Any idea what sort of age these are?
thorncollector   [01 Oct, 2015 at 11:59 PM]
defo pre 2000, probably eighties going by the supersox packets!

What sort of build is the Philips Ollie? Is it metal supports inside or plastic (Mika )
thorncollector   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:09 AM]
its hard to say re the philips, could be hamilton or turnhout. the packets changed around 2000 so it could be either. turnhout made mica disc lamps aswell before tranferring to hamilton the mica disc design originated there
benlucysam   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:14 AM]
The lamp supports are metal, also it is not CE marked so must be Pre 1994
thorncollector   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:15 AM]
sox and sox-e 18w are interchangeable, maybe the sox 18 is slightly brighter approx 50 lumens. as the lamp wattage increases the light output from sox-e lowers.
thorncollector   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:19 AM]
whats the marking on the lamp ie 2a, 3c, 3k etc?
benlucysam   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:20 AM]
1k if that helps
Danny   [02 Oct, 2015 at 12:42 AM]

This is the answer from James, when the same question was asked on LG,

"The original SOX 18W had no auxiliary ignition electrode, but this was added on the SOX-E 18W in the form of electrifying the IR coating via a small ceramic capacitor connected to one electrode. This allows the SOX-E 18W to run on simpler and slightly more efficient control gear. The lamp efficacy is the same, but the system efficacy is better for certain kinds of control gear that can run SOX-E."

All I ever find in the recycling bin at the tip is old crap not worth saving, never anything like this. I did find a full case of 75-85w T12's in the lamp bin at the wholesalers once tho!
