Reminds me of some of the post top fluorescents we once had in the UK...

This is a post-top fixture of the NSL type, one of the first post-top fixtures in the GDR.
Production began in the 1950s and ended at the beginning of the 1970s.
This fixture was available with three lamp types at the start of production:

- incandescent lamps

- mercury vapour lamps

- U-shaped fluorescent tubes

These variants were reduced over the years. This fixture almost always had an opal glass bowl.
There were also versions with transparent glass, but these were rare. Today, these fixtures are extremely rare.
This example at Benneckenstein railway station is probably one of the very last and is not damaged.

If I'm reading that right, they offered a version with THREE 125w lamps in it!

Yes, thats right. Was Type NSL 0 in 1959 with three lamps MV 125W.

That's some serious light then! Be interesting to see the internal layout, but sadly they didn't put that in the literature

The U shaped fluorescent options sound interesting too, especially back then with all the different halophosphor colours that could have been run in them. Sort of an early form of the much more recent compact fluorescent PL post tops seen too.
