Typical fluorescent install in an old Shop
This picture shows a common install in many older shops and other buildings that I remember from my childhood in the 70s and 80s with fluorescent battens suspended on chains and linked to an original installation, via a bayonet plug, with a ceramic ceiling rose mounted on a wooden backing. Somewhere there would be a dozen or so dolly switches also mounted on wood. Nearly every news agents had that cigarette display unit with the fluorescent backlit sign and clock. Can almost smell the sweets and the newspaper print and hear the gentle ballast buzz!

Great pic there Rob! At the beginning of the '80s there must have been tens of thousands of little shops just like this. I can just imagine myself there at about 6 years old trying to decide what chocolate bar to buy. Smile

This shop looks like it may have once been a butchers with all the tiles.

yes seen loads of fittings on hooks and chains like that on plug in ceiling roses, old factories used a lot of those rock plug in roses on conduit boxes

I remember an old corner shop in our town (a housing estate now)!, but it was full of 8 foot single battens Cool, it was the first time I’d seen 8s in single form to the twins we had in junior school!
