APT 2ft 20w fluorescent power car lights
Just aquired 4 of these unique fluorescent lights that until a few weeks ago were installed in the Advanced passenger train which is now an exhibit at Crewe heritage centre. There would have been a remote inverter housed in a box next to it. APT was a tilting train project by British rail in the 1970s - early 80s. These were in the power car where the traction motors (4 x 1000hp) and other control equipment was, it was said to be very noisy when the train was running! Passengers wouldn't have had access to the power car, it would have been a dangerous environment with equipment up to 25kv. These were removed due to 110v battery pack no longer holding charge and have been replaced by LED, so I asked the guy if I could buy them so here we are! These would make excellant work ben lights and will be restored. Their compact size makes them quite flexible.
